Day: 7, Time of day: Evening - Night
Location: North-Eastern Forest of Vallaki (Gorepaw)
Side Note: Orb obtained from Gorepaw, gives off a faint aura and is colored green. It is pulsating and humming a little. Shevat added that it has a strong spiritual energy to it and also believes that it is one of the offerings like in the legend. No traces of Gorepaw are left after the fight, merely some strange, bubbling liquid. There's a name written on the cavalier hat inside the magical bag: Rudolph van Richten. Obtained light blue lockbox (Pyre), Cavalier's hat (Yshvara), Spyglass (Shevat), Handy Haversack (Tibirin).

I reached my hand to Pyre to get her back up and asked if she's alright. Well, she has had better days, of that I am certain. We stood near the remains of what used to be Gorepaw. No bones, just some strange ... Goo. Some bubbling liquid remains. Odd, but we did obtain the orb that we believe is the so-called gem of the land. I didn't imagine it to be this big, I expected it to be much smaller when I saw it in Arvirin's hands. It makes me wonder about the weight not much about the power it holds. If it can control a creature that big ... I can only imagine the others to be the same. I wouldn't be surprised if the Lord of the Lake is the sake case. Undead origin, much like this one, cursed by the land of Barovia, or rather, that vampire Lord ...

We regrouped and saw the curious glance of the druid going past each of us before he decided to call forth a spectral being to recover the others from their wounds. I asked each of them if they have been scratched by the creature, bearing in mind that it affects its target with something like a poison that would get badly infected until they die but it seems like no one has noticed anything. They better not hold any information from me about their health ... When I focused on each of their expressions, I paused at Arvirin when his hair caught my eye. He is holding the orb and I can hear some soft sounds coming from it but not only that, some of his hair suddenly started to flow a little. Almost like a reaction from an electric source. That orb seems powerful, it's not often that something like this happens when you hold anything of magical, or instead, spiritual origin. Well, I haven't come across anything of the sort. Some common magical items at most, maybe.

Yshvara suggested gathering some of Gorepaw's liquid remains to examine it and to possibly make a type of antidote just in case. I remember looking at her with a puzzled expression. I am certainly not the type of guy to perform such a task. At most, I would use my healing abilities to relieve the suffering. My gaze went to Shevat. He seems more to be the type for this. Shevat indeed seems enthusiastic about her idea and suggested using an empty potion bottle to gather some of it. However, we have none.

Yshvara found one of the wine bottles inside her bag and suggested finishing it to use that instead. I didn't interfere with the idea but I couldn't help them to empty the bottle, not when I'm on duty. I will not drink liquor until we get to safety. Instead, I suggested they make Tibirin to help them drink it. I looked in his direction. Again, the question came. "Do I look like an alcoholic?" I raised my eyebrows and smiled a little, then asked if I should repeat the answer I gave him during our time in the cellar with the barrels of wine.

So I asked him "Would you like me to answer?" Tibirin seemed to remember asking it before. So, I asked him if he'd like me to answer again. The answer was a clear no. "No, because I know what you're going to say." he said with a mild frown. I shrugged my shoulders. "And no, I am not." Tibirin added. Yshvara started to drink from the bottle during our discussion. It wasn't much that she drank from the bottle before she passed it around for the others to assist her. Pyre helps her and then Tibirin empties the rest of the bottle. With that, a sample is gathered. Shevat better not get himself infected during his strange experiments ...

Tibirin's gaze went to the cave in the distance where Gorepaw had rested before he approached it. It was starting to get darker and I believed that we should be on our way soon but the tabaxi was too stubborn to notice and pushed on. He got one of his javelins that he previously failed to throw and used it as a tool to look inside a large pile of bones. I followed him with curiosity, also, his safety, and observed him with a skeptical expression.

The stench is terrible. It's best if we leave soon, very soon. The flesh that is attached to the bones is, like the reports have said, half eaten. Tibirin scoffed and mumbled "Sloppy eater ..."

It didn't look as successful as Tibirin had hoped for, so I offered him my help after I asked him what he expected to find in this pile. He explained to me that the bear has eaten many different targets, among the pile there could be something of value. I did agree that Vallaki seems to be in constant danger of getting taken by the bear, there indeed could be something meaningful for us inside a pile of ... Possibly rotten flesh, other questionable goo and the terrible stench that I can't refrain myself from repeating. I held my breath as long as I managed, breathing only briefly to stock myself on oxygen. I requested his javelin, which he allowed me to use and made an attempt. To clarify my vision, I boosted myself before making the attempt to find something.

With divine energy surrounding me, I did my best to focus on what could be hidden in this gory looking pile. It wasn't a pleasant sight and neither was the thought, knowing that these are human bones, innocent people that were defenseless against the creatures might. I hope that Gorepaw's defeat will put their souls at ease. With that thought in mind, I caught a glimpse of something that looks like a bag inside this pile and pushed the bones on top to reveal it to Tibirin. It is stuck inside a sticky looking fluid again, I knew that it is not going to be an easy task to carry it out. Yshvara approached us from behind and offered a solution. I saw her cast something until a spectral hand appeared in front of her, just like she did with the large door in in the monastery. With curiosity, I followed the hand move to the bag to tug on it but it's just not enough to carry it. I didn't expect any less. If it is to be so sticky, then brute force is needed.

Pyre's impatience from behind almost got me nervous, I saw her move a little closer to examine the goo. Clearly, she didn't seem bothered by the smell of it, rather the fact that it's stuck there and it is taking too long. She was about to reach her hand to touch the bag but before she could, I firmly took her wrist to refrain her from foolishness. "What are you going to do?" I asked her with a threatening tone. She didn't seem too bothered by it to simply respond. "I'm just going to pick up the bag ..." I repeated after her, adding that this could hold potential danger and eventually murder her if she will be so reckless. "You're not going to do that." I added, she grew irritated. "Am I not?!"

Then I moved the javelin to her and told her to try it with that instead. She was frustrated with it, clearly, but gave in and took the javelin to try. "Fine, I'll try it with your stupid stick." I moved away to give her the space to make the attempt. She seemed to be handling it well, it did take her a little but once she managed to place the object underneath the straps, she pulled it out successfully. The rucksack is brown and reddish, the original color is hard to tell from this state and it's enormous. It's about half the size of Pyre.

Whatever creature carried this bag must either have been tall or simply overprepared. I suggested cutting the bottom open, so that none of us would have to touch it but Shevat interfered with the plan because it could potentially belong to someone. Well, that someone is likely dead? Oh, but their family? Ah well. The bag seems to be in a perfect condition, besides the smell, color and fluids. We hesitated for a moment and that was for the better when it turns out to be a magical item. It was Yshvara who came up with the idea. Tibirin was the one who took another javelin to check the space inside the bag to see if it resembles the ability of Yshvara's bag. Whatever that meant. I was originally upset with Pyre opening it up but cutting the bag open would be a loss. I returned my weapon and observed their foolishness.

The javelin just disappears into the depth of the bag. I was astonished to see it with my own eyes. Not for a moment could I recognize the shape of the javelin anywhere near the bag other than the opening. I didn't comment on it, not even once. I did occasionally grumble something. As curious as they were, this became like a surprise party to see what is inside. The first item is a spyglass, the second was a hat with a plume attached and the third is a lockbox.

Neither Shevat or Arvirin have seen a spyglass before and they were clearly more curious to see how it functions and get shocked by it than to move to a more comfortable space where it's ... Brighter and less dangerous. Yshvara added that she has been on a boat before. I will not bother acting surprised either if she was one of the crew members of some (pirate) ship. She gladly accepted the cavalier hat. Only a few more items are lacking for a completed look.

Then Pyre and Yshvara were occupied with the lockbox, struggling to open up the box that appears to be magically locked. No key was found after all and their mischievous tools couldn't open it up either. As it was getting darker and I grew even less patient with their attempts, Yshvara finally suggested taking a look at the box when we returned back to Vallaki. It was a relief. Especially because I pointed out that soon one of us is unable to see in the darkness of this dangerous environment, something we cannot risk. Muriël made a small turn toward Shevat and said that she could aid him if we intended to return. It's going to take a while to get back, after all. Then she also suggested that now without Gorepaw, we could set camp here as well, which Shevat was interested in but I definitely did not. This reeks! This is unsafe! And who really enjoys spending  time in some fort of body remains, really? Only a complete imbecile would!

Luckily we have none of those around. We agreed to return to Vallaki immediately. I would report to the burgomeister immediately about our success but as it was getting late, I turned to Muriël to ask if she would still be available or not but she reassured me and said that she's up until very late and even relies on her to get her to rest. Maybe this will help, I thought, to give her some better rest at night. This is also the final task I am given under her command. This might be it, I thought, my final moment that I share with these people. Muriël aimed her hand in Shevat's direction when we were about to move toward Vallaki. I saw her cast a spell on him and observed it. He was told to keep his eyes closed in the process when she granted him better eyesight. It would only last for a moment before the effect would be gone, she instructed him. He sees better than all of us as of now, now that I know that Yshvara is not suffering like he is. I did wonder why she never complained about the dark, I guess she didn't lie about being Aasimar.

With Muriël's blessing and leave, we all made our way back safely. Besides, that embarrassment. Hate randomly positioned roots on my path ... I swear that I could hear Pyre laugh when I straightened my back and continued walking. Tsk.

Day: 7, Time of day: Midnight
Location: Burgomeister's mansion, Vallaki
Side Note: The bag in which we found the hat and name on is not a Barovian name, it's from a traveler outside. Maybe the innkeeper/barkeeper of "Blue Water inn" knows more.

Our first stop was the burgomeister's mansion, we walked up the stairs and carefully knocked on the door before entering to see the hardworking woman behind her desk. Again, with a lot of paperwork and mild frustration. Shevat kindly greeted her when we entered and told her about the good news we had. Gorepaw is no longer a threat to Vallaki. She could already tell from our safe arrival and could not hold back to inform us about the stench we carry from visiting that place. I'm definitely going to take a damned shower when I get back. I don't care how late it is or how late it will get when I am done ... She was curious to know if Shevat managed to find a way to cure the creature but he explained to her about its undead origin. Clearly, the druid was sad about this reality but it couldn't be any better for him either, it would either be like this or having to murder a living creature upon failure. My gaze rested on him for a moment before it focused on Ireena again. I reminded him of the people we have saved from this threat now that it is no longer. We cannot return what has been taken but we give the people hope again. Vallaki's hunters will be able to obtain food for the citizens again.

Shevat asked Ireena about the owner of the hat which name he discovered, wondering if she knew anyone by that name. A noble like her would know a good amount of names and at least those of Vallaki as a temporary burgomeister. The name, however, didn't ring a bell. She assumes it is from someone outside of Barovia. It's not a Barovian name. Shevat suggested that the man may have visited Vallaki before he met Gorepaw and, with that, his end. So we could find more information at the tavern, maybe.

A moment of silence followed which I took as an opportunity to ask for other tasks I must attend to but she has nothing to give as of now. Besides rebuilding houses there's nothing to do. Though, she believes I am not much of a builder. It's not wrong, I indeed have no such experience. Which means, I'm out of tasks. She is convinced that our talents can be used differently.

Shevat sighed with relief after she said so, now, he said, he can finally focus on curing Stella. He told me that if I met her then I would understand but if it's not a task of mine, it's none of my business.

This may mean goodbye and I honestly wouldn't know what to spend my time on. I looked over to the others and asked if they would need my help for that. Yshvara and Shevat were quick to agree. But my superior as of now is the burgomeister. He asked her if she would lend our strength to him to complete the following task. She agreed, almost unsure how to react. "Sure, I hereby appoint ... Shevat is now your Boss."

... What.

"Yep! Yep! No longer my problem." she added. What's this supposed to mean?! Even Shevat grew slightly nervous. "I didn't mean it like that, but ..." Yshvara moved a little closer with a smile. "Well then, any tasks for your new henchmen?" The druid was quick to change subject and point out that we need to rest up. Ireena agreed until she realized that Muriël is not with us and wondered where she went. We told her what she told us, she had some important business to attend to. Ireena returned a skeptical expression. "Right ... Right ..." She is clearly convinced that Muriël is avoiding work. I was quick to offer my help to avoid being bossed around by Shevat but paperwork is not something I can do for her, I'm not her officially appointed assistant nor her. Well, I guess I'm stuck with them after all. I am told to behave and obey Shevat, Ireena told me not to forget confirming with a "Yes sir." after each of his commands. I can play that game if I must, how long I can fake it is another. Shevat quickly confirmed that there is no such need but Ireena insisted.

"Shevat, it's important that you show your authority." I kept looking back and forth. "Otherwise", she said. "People will never listen to you." Just when Shevat tried to shake it off again, Ireena continued. "Look at this ..."

She called my name and told me to sit down on the chair. She's a noble, temporary burgomeister and it would be rude to disobey even if it was just plain embarrassing to. I obeyed her order and did as she told me. Ireena looked back to Shevat. "You see, this isn't good because I'm not his superior. I can not make him do that." Then she said that I could get up again. By this time I felt some MILD frustration and before I would start to yell, I just walked down the stairs and waited for them to come out again.

Day: 7, Time of day: Midnight
Location: Headquarters, Vallaki
Side Note: Lockbox text on the box "Without me all hope is lost." It's school of magic is Conjuration, which unlocks after the keyword "Light". (Pyre's possession)

Pyre was ahead of us when we returned back and I was beyond eager to wash myself. Upon arrival, I immediately walked upstairs to take a hot shower for long enough to get the stench off and when I walked out, covered in steam, Pyre called my name and told me to come downstairs. I complained but I came downstairs when she told me that the blue lockbox is empty. I shrugged my shoulders but I saw how frustrated she was with that discovery, even Yshvara looked mildly disappointed. So I asked if I should place something inside to keep her happy but she didn't seem very excited about that. I should help her, she said.

I was standing there, looking at the box from the distance before looking into her eyes again, lifting my brow and asking what she expects me to do. Yshvara and Pyre were eager for me to take a closer look at the box after all their discoveries. The writing, the arcane sigils, the password to unlock the box being "Light", what else is there to discover? I was told not to interfere and just to take a look. The box is rather well made, it's of excellent quality besides the fabric that has been torn out of the box by Pyre's not so suppressed aggressions but it revealed the sigil.

I paid close attention to it and although it's not my type of magic, it does look similar to the spells that I use. The sigil is related to the school of conjuration but other than that, I cannot figure out anything at all. I placed the box down and turned to Pyre to tell her that. A silence followed and she told me that I could go to bed. I couldn't help returning a remark. "Am I allowed? Oh, thank you." Yshvara thanked me for my effort, then I followed Pyre's advice and left the living room.

Day: 8, Time of day: Morning (10 o'clock)
Location: Headquarters, Vallaki
Side Note: Shevat had a dream, assumingly the Orb of the Land tried to reach him, saying that it wants to be returned. Orb is now in Shevat's possession.

After the night, I heard movement on the stairs and walked out of my room to follow the noise to the kitchen where everyone had gathered. Shevat asked all of us about a strange dream. Clearly, other than just those repetitive nightmares, I don't believe it's anything to even bother mentioning. It's the same for the others, none of them was as strange as that of Shevat. He said that he believes that the large orb in Arvirin's possession tried to reach him in his dream. It tried to speak to us all, through Shevat, he said. That's probably the weirdest thing I've heard but I shrugged my shoulders. Even that vampire Lord spoke to me in mine, so why would this suddenly stand out.

He said that the voice in his dream told him that it wants to be returned. Likely to the shrine, I said, but is it not corrupted as of now? Shevat believes it is because the orb has been removed from its original position. That might be right but there is a risk involved by placing it back, regardless of that. It is troublesome but if we'll risk it anyway, we must be prepared for the consequences that may follow. Shevat might be right but any place corrupted here in Barovia requires a very powerful source or relic to get rid of it. The orb may hold that power, yes. If not, it might get cursed and corrupted again and we might face a new enemy. I asked Father Petrovich for his advice on how to lift the curse and it will take a lot, even for me. It's almost unimaginable that I would ever be able to do such a thing. - Ilmater could ... I am certain. Maybe if my connection grows stronger ...

Yshvara confessed her concerns about the dream, from the sound of it, they have had multiple dreams (mis)lead them through the land of Barovia. I don't believe that each of them holds only negative results, an orb that powerful, I believe it can be trusted. It's just a question if this is the right moment to return it. It must also be safe, not to be removed again but similarly to the relic, there might be a type of mechanism to keep it safe and it may make our journey a lot more pleasant.

Arvirin also added that, we also, could be overwhelmed at all times and lose the orb. That won't add any progress to our journey either. What he said is the truth, we do need to keep it safe. We also risked placing the relic down inside a coffin with an inscription that we were unable to read. It worked out. Risks are a part of this whole land. If we aren't bold enough at times, we might overlook our solutions. We might just find someone who is capable of helping lift the corruption for us instead.

We discussed it a little more and eventually came up with a new strategy. I suggested that someone who is not in the frontline should hold onto the orb to avoid it from being stolen so very easily. Arvirin has been holding onto it for this time but if I imagine him falling like I have seen before, I can imagine that the enemy would try to take it away from him. It might also slow him down with that size. I made a suggestion that Shevat would hold it or Yshvara, but honestly, I said, I'd prefer Shevat to be the one. This is his field of expertise, even with an unknown object. It might feel urged to message Shevat again in a way, may it be through a dream or any other type of communication. I saw Arvirin's disappointment written all over him, clearly, I hurt his feelings but honesty usually does. It cannot be helped. Shevat did his best to explain it with better words, better than I ever could. Still, he admitted to feeling weak. Well, if there's one thing he is not, then ...

Anyway, we decided to head to Lake von Zarovich to find the underwater flower. Shevat said that he might have some magic that could help us locate the flower. Hopefully, he is right ...

Before we went out, I reminded the others of their ... Great smell. Yshvara admitted that she wanted to take a shower last night when we returned but it was occupied. Well, it's not anymore! So she went up the stairs to take a shower. I decided to eat something when I saw Arvirin suddenly take off his clothes before climbing onto the counter and placing himself into the sink. Why is he so carefree about this?! Shevat supported it, believing that it's a very creative approach. I was not as enthusiastic about it and looked over to the other two. Arvirin cheered how nice the water felt and was even playing in there. I can't believe my eyes ... So I asked if Shevat also intends to do the same but he intends to take a "bath" in the lake instead. It's not too odd but ...

Day: 8, Time of day: Morning (10 o'clock)
Location: Lake von Zarovich, North of Vallaki
Side Note: Unfamiliar woman appears in bright clothing (Vistani origin)

We made our way toward Lake von Zarovich. We left through the right gate of Vallaki and I followed Shevat who led us in the direction of what he assumed to be the lake but it seemed odd. Arvirin helped him but it felt like the distance between us and the lake didn't get better. We were stuck inside a forest. Many trees we passed are knocked over, almost as if something big passed here. The road was also in a horrible state. I haven't been here before but I kept my eyes open for if anything were to catch my attention. When I looked closer to the trees that fell over, I noticed big paw prints. A large beast must have crossed it ... While I was in thought, imagining the size of the creature, I caught a glimpse of a moving creature in front of the group, covered in shadows, a huge wolf with red eyes made its appearance. Quickly, I warned the others when some smaller wolves joined the leader and we were dragged into combat.

<Battle start>

Four wolves in total, one of them is much larger. They had us surrounded. I drew my weapon and prepared my attack. A large lightning bolt was aimed at one of the wolves in the distance and Tibirin made way to the huge wolf together with Pyre while the rest of us focused on the smaller three. One of them came charging at Yshvara and another one came for me, it caught me off guard but it's nothing I can't take. Arvirin was quick to aid me and attacked the same enemy. With my trusty spiritual blade out, I felt a lot more confident on the field and things seemed to work out well when suddenly the wolves disappeared one by one, only to appear again in an inconvenient formation. Shevat seemed very absent during the battle. I saw a wolf appear near him and prioritized his safety, I knew he was holding onto the orb and I won't let them beat up a man that seems paralyzed on the spot. I channeled my divine energy and shot at the creature with a successful blow, causing the shadows of what made it solid, to vanish entirely. Both the orb and Shevat are safe.

During the battle that started to get rather overwhelming at this point, I heard a voice in the distance that commanded us to lower ourselves. A large lightning bolt struck the wolf close to me. The enemy close to me vanished in the light and a woman in colorful clothing approached me from the side. She warned us to get away from the wolves since they are dangerous, or as she said "very bad". Well I'm not going to question that but we're in a bit of a tight spot here to retreat ...

Then I saw how Arvirin went down all of a sudden. I quickly moved toward him now that most enemies are gone and got him back up his feet. (+28 HP) and then the next one went down, Tibirin was the next one to go when suddenly many Bolts of light struck down onto the enemy. A large light appeared and took the remains of the wolf along when it disappeared.

The woman looked at all of us. "So, who the hell are you people?" she asks us. Tibirin is down, Shevat, held captive in a deep, everlasting daydream.
