Day: 7, Time of day: Afternoon
Location: Blacksmith, Vallaki
Side Note: Getting the hammer fixed will take a "couple of days" at the blacksmith, Milivoj will take over the blacksmith's shop after some training, Morgu is too busy with his position as guard captain

(Remarks marked by * are written in abyssal, remarks marked by - are written in celestial, the rest of the entry is written in common)

Our first stop after leaving the Burgomeister's office was to head to the blacksmith to pick up the armor of Tibirin. Morgu told Tibirin that he would require a longer time to finish up his hammer and requested his patience. He also mentioned that the child from the orphanage will lend him a help in his shop, or rather said, he is going to take it over after Morgu's training. I am not very eager to return to this shop with that kid in charge but the blacksmith reassured me that he would still have his office in the shop, open for our requests. Helpful.

He let Tibirin borrow his changing room to try on his new splint mail that is perfectly tailored for his body shape. It probably hasn't been an easy task in the past for that guy to find anything fitting for his dimensions but luckily Morgu is a skilled man with an eye for precision. When the tabaxi returned with his new armor on, he received many compliments, among them, my own. It is very practical rather than glamorous, very suitable for a man like him. Morgu's curious gaze went past the man and looked over to us for any more requests or demands.

Yshvara stepped forth and revealed her tools, or rather said, her thief tools that she had swapped out with Pyre. It needs repairing. He didn't give it a single comment to my own surprise but neither could he repair it so soon, instead, he recommended replacing it entirely for 25 Gold. He has some of them laying around he said, or anything that he could work with to turn them into those tools. I was speechless but this time, I kept my comments to myself. She is promised to be delivered a good quality set of tools but the price remains as it is. That's when Yshvara realized that she had given her money to Tibirin to afford the armor. Pyre stepped forth and said that she will pay for them instead.

We thanked him for his time and help but to Morgu it was no big deal, instead, he said it was the least he can do for us after all we have done for Vallaki. I do not feel addressed, really, after all, I've only been here for a short while and my contribution isn't half as much as the others, so I simply passed the credit to the others. The blacksmith didn't let go, he told me that I did a lot of work to get the relic back. Does the news spread this quickly? He told me not to sell myself short. I wasn't convinced but I did appreciate his effort to make me feel a little more valuable. Again, I shared it with him. I felt urged to leave and back away at that moment. And that, I did after we said our goodbye.

Shevat was waiting in front of the door of the shop again. Maybe he is not truly aware that he is a human and not a dog at this moment but I'll leave it at that. He complimented Tibirin for his new appearance with the new armor on. They discussed the quality of the armor a little before we continued our way.

With some time left before Muriël would return and be sent to us, I suggested visiting the stockyard once more. I have some materials to gather for future application even with my limited funds, I believe that this could prove itself useful for when we will arrive in a dark place again. To create an everlasting flame, I need ruby dust and perform a small ritual. I just need a suitable object to lit. I cannot simply carry around a flame ... A torch would be too big to simply hide away for when the enemy is near ... Hmm

Day: 7, Time of day: Afternoon
Location: Stockyard, Vallaki
Notes: Jeweled Horn, Glass eye and Amulet will be done in 3 days (100 G left to pay), Platinum rings will be done in 3 days as well (50 G left to pay) - Tibirin

We went to the stockyard for multiple reasons. Among my personal needs, we also need to find a buyer for the wine that we got in the cellar. We could really put the funds to good use, who knows what will come? Wine is really wanted these days, or so it sounded like. Upon arrival, I saw the wagon of Rictavio standing there again. Strange that he hasn't returned to retrieve it. He has left, does he have no purpose for it? It reeks of suspicion. As usual, the stockyard looks as organized as ever with all the barrels and crates covered with various goods all over the place. It's an eyesore.

He went straight to the building to buy what we needed and get it over with. This time a different person is standing in front of the desk to assist us. A man, assumingly the owner of the stockyard, last time, it may have been his wife, the alchemist. Gunter is his name, a middle aged human man. Short black hair, mixed with some gray as a sign of his aging. He looks friendly and inviting but most of all very exciting with his ... Accent.

I requested him for some ruby dust in the value of 50 Gold. To my luck, he seems to have it in stock. I paid for the goods and received a pouch full of dust. Shevat also requested something, it sounds odd but he needs a gold-inlaid vial. What is he going to use that for? I gave him a blank stare. The shopkeep needed to give it some thought. He doesn't have it in stock but he promises to look into it. If Shevat were to commission him to make it, he would get it done in about 2 days. He would return to him once he had enough gold on him. How much is the value of it, anyway?

Something came to mind, that I could put to pretty good use ... I looked over to the man again and asked if he has a jeweled horn, glass eye and something that resembles my amulet. He told me that it would cost me, especially the horn that needs the jewels that each carry a certain value. It will cost me 200 Gold he says, of which I need to pay 100 Gold up front. I felt nervous when I checked my funds but just when I wanted to tell him that I won't be able to afford it, Arvirin got in my way and placed his gold on the counter. "Here you go!", he said. I tried to fight it but the man already took it from him. "Great doing business with ya!", the shopkeeper smiled back at him.

I saw that smug expression on the wood elf's face when he looked over his shoulder. He should keep that for himself ... Rather than spend it on me ... The order will be done in about 3 days from now, he told me. Then I will pick it up and pay him the remaining 100 Gold. I better pay Arvirin back, I can't take his funds like that ... My eyes were mostly focused on the ground to avoid eye contact while my back was facing them to hide that familiar burning sensation ...

Shevat again raised his voice and asked if the man was interested in buying a great quality wine in a barrel but before he would make a deal with us, he preferred to bring it to him for further inspection. He is very excited about the wine, actually. I heard him mumble something about how well it would sell as well. So we decided not to split up and follow Tibirin that was already on his way out to gather the barrel.

Day: 7, Time of day: Afternoon
Location: Headquarters, Vallaki

We gathered the barrel from the cellar, or rather said, Tibirin did. I asked if he requires any assistance to carry that heavy barrel but Tibirin refused and said that it won't be heavy ... At least, for him it isn't. So I backed away again and let him handle it on his own. It's simply incredible how easily he lifts it up. I wonder if it's our size difference or is it our race difference? ... Truly, I've never seen such a large tabaxi before in my entire life.

I looked over to the other barrels and asked him what to do with those. Their quality is unlikely to match that of the Red Dragon Crush wine and that also includes the value for it. They wanted to keep them for themselves to drink from. I didn't interfere. He was wondering whether or not we already took something from it but the answer is no, I said, unless he has done it in secret. It upset Tibirin a little when I said so and asked me if he looks like an alcoholic. I told him that he sounds like one when we first come into the cellar, his excitement is difficult to overlook. He got a little louder but then he calmed down again and said that he has not. That was pretty amusing.

I told him that he also sounded so defensive of it around the guards when I mentioned it to them. Not just him actually, Yshvara as well. They made me sound like a mad man. He explained to me that in desperate times, people tend to hoard expensive things, similarly to dragons. I returned him a skeptical look and gave a little shrug. Honestly, should it bother us? But it was strange to hear that from him. Is he concerned with their well being in a sense? ... I took back my words and apologized.

We returned to the stockyard.

Day: 7, Time of day: Afternoon
Location: Stockyard, Vallaki
Note: Tibirin commissioned 2 platinum rings, which will take 3 days. (50 Gold left to pay)

We arrived at the stockyard again to find Gunter, the shopkeep, to inspect the barrel. It is in excellent condition and sealed. He would pay 2300 Gold for the barrel. That's a lot of Gold for such liquor. I never owned a barrel of liquor, neither am I interested, I could never afford to drink during or after work but for a noble family, this is likely the luxury they would want to get their hands on. We agreed to the price and he handed us the funds. He offered us to count the gold for accuracy and I offered myself to do the counting for which he allowed me to make use of a desk and a tool to assist the counting.

Tibirin turned to me and asked if he could use some of the gold for something he needs. I merely returned a nod and moved the gold in his direction and continued to count the total. This is a lot to count but nothing I can't manage, it just takes time ... Tibirin commissioned the man two platinum rings and paid 50 gold up front. His commission would take 3 days as well.

The gold matches, everything is counted, so I placed everything back inside the pouch in which he gave it to me. I really wonder how he can give it so quickly to us, does he have multiple of those pouches prepared with a fixed amount of gold inside? Quite impressive ...

Before we went, Pyre bought a shield from the man and I asked if they restock their health potions but currently, they only have one overpriced potion available. The man explained that his wife didn't have the time to make the common potions. I can't afford spending what I have on that, neither the gold we have earned. Besides, we still need to split that amount. I will do so when we get back from our mission. Gunter was very eager to sell us the potion even after Shevat said that he relies on his healing abilities, he asked him who will heal him when he is down, so I immediately answered that I would, but then again, he asked us who would heal us when we're both down? I said that it would likely be Yshvara, again, he asked, who would heal us when Yshvara is down as well. My answer was that Tibirin would, I have seen him recover Arvirin during that battle against the strange monster. Gunter didn't let go and again asked what we would do if Tibirin is down as well.

I admitted, that is when we have a problem. So he offered it to us again. Pyre said that she has a potion as well. Still, the shopkeeper didn't let go and asked "You know what is better than one potion?" - Of course, two of them but our disinterest hasn't changed. And, finally, he gave up.

With our business done, we left the stockyard.

We stood outside again. I asked everyone if they have any more business to do and when they said they have not, I told them that I have one more thing that I would like to do. I explained to them my concern and shared with them the story that Ellamin has commissioned Blinksy a toy that would resemble Naedithas and that it may be problematic when Ellamin intends to pick it up, he could bring danger to not only Vallaki but also to Blinksy. Who knows what the enemy has planned?

They were fine with it, Yshvara seemed rather excited about it, too. She did pay that kid ... A lot of dolls after all. She might really like dolls or kids, I cannot tell. Tibirin is not so excited about seeing him and pointed out that it has something to do with his appearance, I recognized that later on, I do recall seeing those images of what I assume is Tibirin's past, that shares some similarities with the man I met.

Day: 7, Time of day: Afternoon
Location: Blinksy's toy Store, Vallaki
Note: Arvirin is gifted a wolf plush by Blinksy, The Naedithas doll has already been picked up during the same night as the count's arrival, Ellamin and Naedithas have business to attend in the south of Vallaki according to Blinksy. Blinksy's memory of his Strahd collection seems to have vanished.

It mattered not, we made our way to Blinksy's toy store before returning back "home". The shop seems friendly, kid friendly anyway. Tibirin held his ground outside the store while we walked in. I noticed Arvirin's excitement about something when the shop owner cheered at his possible customers.

I froze up at the high pitched sound of absolute excitement upon entering and felt awkward around his behavior. It's absolutely fine to be excited about customers and calling them friends without knowing them ... Unless he meant just the others. He gave me a confused look and asked if I was alright. If I maybe wanted a glass of water but I quickly said I was fine until he came closer and asked if I wanted a free doll. Do I look like I'd be interested in a doll?! He then suddenly pressed this strange looking doll in my hand that resembles a girl. I gave him my best expression when I asked him "Do I look like a girl?!" He stopped for a moment and said "No, but that is a girl." and pointed at the doll in my hand. Clearly this is made for a girl to hold, not an adult man! I tried not to insult him for giving me something and stumbled over my words a little when Blinksy raised his voice and said.

"We don't believe that boys are not allowed to have girl dolls!" Almost like he was protesting for whatever rights. My vision clearly differs from his, maybe there are adult men who like owning dolls like ... But I am not one of them. He called me outdated for my disagreement. Likely. 175 years old or outdated, that's it. I was again struggling to put it into words but Pyre behind me said to me "Don't be rude." so I told her to take the doll INSTEAD. "You take it! He gave it to YOU!" she whispered back to me. I looked over to Blinksy again and said that Pyre is very interested in it.

Blinksy couldn't contain his excitement when he said "Oh are you?! You should have said so!" Then asked for her interests in dolls, what she would be interested in. Immediately, she was a bit awkward about it. She told him that she was fine without and pushed his attention back at me again and said that I am just very embarrassed about my so-called growing collection of toys. I felt my cheeks flush a little. I have no such thing! She said that I'm just pushing it onto everyone else to hide my shame. Pyre?!

"Excuse me?!", he hissed back at her and she gave me this look while shrugging her shoulders a little. "You don't have to be embarrassed about it ...~" Blinksy in the back supported her inaccurate description and added that it's not the 1250s anymore, I should adapt. Things are progressing a little bit, he said. Men are allowed to have doll collections and he has a very extensive one and asked if we're interested in seeing it. Isn't that his passion?! I took the opportunity to address the doll I'm looking for.

I explained to him about my goal here, informing him that I would like to pick up the commission from Ellamin. I made him have contact with the familiar faces to reveal that we're genuine but he has a strict policy about the commissions and his customers, so I felt the urge to add why he may not be able to come and pick it up. Shevat supported me when Blinksy felt threatened with my presence when I told him why it is important that he hands it over to us. The shopkeeper requested me to take the distance from him, which, of course, I gladly did. Shevat helped the man understand what it was about but I didn't expect him to actually answer like he would.

Ellamin came to pick it up, himself, together with Naedithas who was standing outside.

I was shocked, speechless. He told us that it was the same night when Strahd came to visit us, to have a feast. It was sickening that they just come and let themselves in like that. Just when they got rid of most of the vampire issues, instead, three simply enter Vallaki and behave as if it's a normal happening. * How badly I wish to expose that vampire Lord to direct sunlight and watch him burn for allowing him and his ... New minions ... To enter a place that is definitely not welcome to them ...

Blinksy told us that Ellamin said something about doing a thing on his own a little to the south of Vallaki and also mentioned that Ellamin looked like he hadn't slept a lot. The others revealed the map to the shopkeeper and pointed to the south. He explained that it is a swamp terrain and that people don't usually go there. It is very dangerous there. It is located near the ruins of the village that the count once attacked, Berez. He reminded us, again, that it is not safe to leave the road. There is no such thing as a road that would lead there.

Going after him is likely going to take its toll on us. I'm unsure about seeing him. I do not know what the others will do when they meet him. If I'd want to get rid of his affliction, they are likely going to protest. At this point, they only see red. Even mentioning their former companion makes them upset. Is that how easily it works with them? Would they turn their back on me if I were to make a mistake as well? Driven with desires to pierce my skin mercilessly? ... Inviting, yet sickening.

My attention was drawn by Arvirin's excitement that suddenly dropped. I asked him what was wrong and he pointed out the wolf plush that caught his eye. Blinksy's excitement was echoing through the store again when he heard the boy's words. He said that he could exchange it for the ugly girl doll that I am holding, saying that I can't appreciate the fine art anyway and hand him the plush free of charge. I pointed at Pyre and said that she does appreciate it. The genasi sighed back at me and told me not to push my obsession onto her again. Obsession is it now?! I told her that I'm not obsessed ...!

We exchanged the doll and Blinksy took out a neatly stitched together plush of the wolf Arvirin saw. The wood elf moved with excitement to hold onto his new treasure and jumped around like a child. It was strange to experience such pure, genuine happiness so close to me again. Almost as if nothing ever happened. No, I cannot let go just yet even if my work here goes unnoticed. Immediately the owner points at Arvirin's excitement while looking in my direction. "See?! Not weird ..." I rolled my eyes. It's Arvirin we're talking about ... He's different. I insisted. "I'm sure that even he would not appreciate a girl doll." Arvirin looked over to me and said I was wrong. He wouldn't care. Tsk ... It's not like he had to held onto it ... I'm sure that if he'd see it up close, his mind would drastically change!

Blinksy named a fair number of situations where people would commission him dolls, like Urwin owns a doll of his wife among many others. Honestly, that's just weird to me ... I almost feel urged to commission a doll that would resemble Strahd to punch at night, hoping he would watch me but it would be unfair to Blinksy who puts so much work into his passion. I believe this is the only thing that is holding me from doing that.

After Shevat came back from taking a look at his workshop, we decided to leave the store and were thrown at with a very specific line. "It's no Blinksy? It's no fun."

We informed Tibirin about the information we had gathered and then returned back to the residence to meet up with Muriël.

Day: 7, Time of day: Afternoon
Location: Headquarters, Vallaki

When we arrived, I saw Shevat move to a bit more of a private space in the living room to concentrate. I recall that he's been willing to ask the Gods for guidance. I didn't disturb him, instead, I took my seat on the comfortable couch to wait for Muriël's arrival. Moments later, I saw Shevat turn his head with watery eyes, almost as if he has been crying about something. I was honestly wondering what he ended up asking for but it didn't take long before he admitted that Gorepaw is not to be saved. Well, it does align with what they said about him and those odd reactions from getting bitten. He didn't sound very alive from the last description that Ireena gave us but I know the man is stubborn. He'd want to save each and every animal and avoid violence at all costs.

It is probably hard to swallow but I've been getting a feeling that this bear matches the description of each gem's mutation as written out in the journal. It strikes me as awfully familiar. I don't believe it ever has been a living creature ... Well, hopefully he won't feel as bad once we get that confirmed. We will see once we battle the creature. Arvirin was playing with his new plush toy in the background and the others made themselves comfortable while it lasted.

Arvirin then asked if the group didn't want to meet up with Ellamin instead but I don't think we should prioritize a traitor over Vallaki's safety that we have worked hard for to protect. Besides, going there is said to be very dangerous. The path leading there would promise a swamp environment which is already tricky on its own, Barovia's version of that might as well get us killed or glued to the spot for days. Taking out Gorepaw is going to be a lot more efficient. Aren't they also eager to cure the daughter of the Wachter's noble family? Luckily, even Tibirin agreed that Gorepaw is of higher priorities than fixing his personal grudges against the young elf. Shevat also doesn't want to abandon Ireena's request. I'm glad they can keep up their rational thinking. These people are counting on us and I would usually prioritize my orders over anything else.

After a while, a knock on the door followed. It should be Muriël. I refused to open up and meet the woman that is likely awaiting us on the other side. With an expecting gaze I looked over to the others to do it instead. I prefer keeping my distance from her before I lose MY rational thinking. Tibirin let out a sigh and got up when I did not then he opened up the door. The others slowly followed him to the door so they could discuss with Muriël what to do next.

With a kind greeting from Tibirin and Shevat, she returned more of a snarky one when Shevat said that we are ready to hunt Gorepaw. "Oh, finally decided to do something about it? Great." I clenched my fists at that moment. * We returned from the catacomb not very long ago, risking our lives to keep the poor Father safe from any more waves of enemies and she speaks of finally? ... What insolence ...

She did admit that she's glad not to be behind a desk or serving the "princess". Again, I felt my annoyance grow. That's not how you address your superior who works so hard to manage everything ... Miss Ireena Kolyana, the temporary burgomeister seems like a very loving woman who would do anything for the well being of the people ... I held my tongue. We do require this woman's help, ruining her mood is going to get in the way.

We discussed our approach to find Gorepaw, so I addressed my plans for her to find the creature while scouting through the area where he was last seen. She suggested Shevat join her for better efficiency and she said that if she finds him, she would give us, who are standing near the borders of the forest, a unique signal. One that would stand out but I didn't expect her to suggest making the sound of a cow. I do hope that we will be able to hear it if there is too much distance between us. I guess Shevat would assist us with that even if he was insecure about transforming into a bird. He has never transformed into a bird before to take flight which was a surprise to me. If he lives in Kryptgarden forest, as I have read, then would transforming into a bird not be extremely useful to cover such long distances within such a short time? I assume that he prefers being connected to the ground instead. With our plan set, all of us made our way to the northern gate of Vallaki to put our plan in progress.

Day: 7, Time of day: Afternoon
Location: North-Eastern Forest of Vallaki
Note: A green orb escaped the corpse of the bear, possibly the gem of the Land we are looking for.

We arrived at the forest and traveled a little farther inside before Muriël shared that we got to a good location to transform. Her expecting gaze was going in Shevat's direction, who, again, felt insecure about the whole plan. At first, he took the shape of a giant eagle but Muriël made a suggestion to aim for something smaller instead, like a crow. With a troubled expression on the large creature, he transformed into a smaller bird and struggled his way up the skies accompanied by Muriël. They took flight and we held our ground, keeping our hearing senses active to hear that odd sound she'd make.

It took a while and I felt myself getting distracted when we could hear an unamused sound. "Moo ..." coming from a certain direction. It would take a while to reach that but we have enough men on our side to fight through whatever will become an obstacle to reach there. Muriël and Shevat returned to us and gave us the exact location where they spotted the bear. He is near a cave. The two of them took the lead and led us to the place while we came up with a plan.

Originally, Arvirin and Pyre would sneak up to him, attack the bear when he least expects it and lure the creature back to us. It sounded like a good plan, if it truly did work out. We moved toward the cave and held our position in the far distance from the cave. Near the cave, I could see piles of bones, many of them still had flesh on them. It is much like they say, leaving the meat only half eaten. For what purpose? It's rather ungrateful after tearing apart so many helpless hunters that are just trying to get by. I placed my hand on Arvirin's shoulder to cast a warding spell on him, one that will protect him from dying. I knew that this mission was going to come at a cost, - but his innocence must survive this battle. Someone as young is not in the position to die just yet.

I drew my weapon and awaited the arrival of Gorepaw when the young wood elf and genasi moved toward our target. When they got in range, Arvirin accidentally stepped onto one of the scattered bones and caused a loud snap that caught the attention of the strange creature in the distance. Shit ... We had so much distance to close in between them and us. We did our best to move in range while the battle between the three began. Once in range, I saw smaller creatures around the bear, how they came to existence, I did not see, Shevat might have been right about it trying to protect them, but any creature of undead origin has no such senses. I did my best to support the others.

<Battle start>

Once I got in range and got my spiritual weapon to appear on the field to keep Gorepaw company, one of the cubs came to me when I was starting to cast. Arvirin came running in my direction once he dealt some massive damage to the large bear to accompany me in the battle against the small cub. He took it down in multiple hits before I could even bother with it, it was quite impressive until Gorepaw moved in range. Some of the others were in the far distance when it looked like we got most of the enemies down, that was until Gorepaw took a lot of extra damage.

It looked like the creature was dying at first but afterwards it began to take shape again and grew even bigger than it did before. In between this transition, I could see a bright green light coming from its corpse. It caught my attention and my thoughts about it felt confirmed by the sight. It has to be the one we are looking for ... In front of the cave, the giant bear took shape. I haven't seen a creature this large in a while but this shouldn't intimidate us. I, however, planned to keep my distance for this battle to treat any emergencies while Tibirin finally moved in range to keep it on the spot. Those piled up javelins sure didn't form an obstacle for any of these creatures, but I bet that large, crystal sword of his will.

Our focus went to the giant Gorepaw, no more cubs to get in our way, we battled the creature. I supported the others with my magical abilities. Everything was in perfect control when the beast grew weaker and weaker, so did some of the others as we fought, until Pyre dealt her final attack on the creature, enough to finish it but it came at a cost when she hit the ground. I rushed over to her and kneeled in front of her to concentrate on my healing abilities to grant her the strength to stand up again from the ground. I enriched her unconscious body with my energy and cleaned her from most of her wounds in this process. (+30 HP)

<Battle end>

I hope nobody got hit by its claws and if they did, I need them to report to me immediately or I'll punch their dying bodies.
